THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC COST OF DEMENTIA IS ENORMOUS
The total estimated worldwide cost of dementia is enormous – over 1.3 trillion USD (Alzheimer’s Disease International). More than 1% of the annual global value creation is spent on nursing our old and demented. According to recent estimates, more than 80% of all individuals living in nursing homes have dementia.
The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. Other causes include vascular disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and fronto-temporal dementia.
There is a huge unmet medical need for novel interventions to treat Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
